Mechanisms and processes of past and future global environmental and climate change. [3-0-0] Prerequisite: Either (a) SCIE 001 or (b) one of CHEM 111, CHEM 121, CHEM 154 and one of MATH 101, MATH 103, MATH 105, MATH 121 and one of PHYS 101, PHYS 107, PHYS 117, PHYS 153, PHYS 157.

Learning Goals

By the end of this course, students will be able to:
(1)  Critically evaluate arguments made in public debate on global climate change
(2)  Recognize and articulate the linkages between the geosphere, hydrosphere, atmosphere, and biosphere in the context of global climate change from long to short temporal scales.
(3)  Explain how past climate change is recorded in rocks, sediments and ice
(4)  Critically evaluate hypotheses on what has caused past climate change
(5)  Explain the impact of human activity on the environment and critically evaluate current arguments regarding human contributions to global climate change
