Academic Concessions
This policy articulates the University's commitment to support students
in their academic pursuits through the application of academic
concessions in the event that students experience unanticipated events
or circumstances that interfere with their ability to accomplish
academic work.
In a nutshell:
- If the circumstance affects only one course, then contact the instructor of that course.
- If the circumstance (e.g., contracting COVID-19) affects many of
your courses, then contact the undergrad Advising Office for Your Own
Faculty (e.g. Arts advising, Science advising, etc.).
Details on Academic Concessions are available here:
Policy on Academic Concession.
Religious & Cultural Accommodation
Recognizing the religious and cultural diversity of the UBC community, UBC permits
students who are scheduled to attend classes or write examinations on
holy days of their religions or cultural observances (for First Nations, Métis or Inuit) to notify their instructors in
writing at least 2 weeks in advance of the holy /cultural day
of their wish to observe it by absenting themselves from class or
examination. Instructors provide opportunity for such students to make
up work or examinations missed without penalty.
