Software on GPG, & manuals:
Outline

All codes that are provided as part of this package are described here. Under the "Sftwr & manuals" menu, each available code has a Description section with more detailed explanations of what codes can do.

Getting started & installation

Installation instructions for DCIP2D, MAG3D, and GRAV3D are on the "Quick Start" pages under each program's documentation menu. These pages describe steps for testing the codes, and help you produce preliminary forward modelled data plus a corresponding inversion result.

Note these Quick Starts will not teach you how to use the codes; they help you demonstrate as quickly as possible that installed programs operate, and that you can make models and run inversions.

Running codes, and documentation

Inversion or modelling programs are called as needed from within graphical user interfaces. You do not have to run programs from the command line, although that is certainly possible if you want to follow directions from the software manuals.

Complete documentation is provided via the "Sftwr & manuals" menu.

What's available in the package?

  1. DCIP2D: Forward modelling and inversion of 2D DC resistivity and IP surface-based data.
       ->
    Educational version restrictions: 100 data points, 1,000 cells in the 2D mesh.
  2. MAG3D: Forward modelling and inversion of 3D surface / airborne / borehole magnetic data.
       ->
    Educational version restrictions: 200 data points, 12,000 cells in the 2D mesh.
  3. GRAV3D: Forward modelling and inversion of 3D surface / airborne / borehole gravity data.
       ->
    Educational version restrictions: 200 data points, 12,000 cells in the 2D mesh.
  4. MeshTools3D: A graphical utility for model viewing, synthetic block-model construction, and forward model activation.
    • To see the manual, click the MeshTools3D code's "Docs" option in IAG's Sftwr & manuals" menu.
    • MeshTools3D is included in MAG3D and GRAV3D installations.
    • (For a separate copy of this program, Click "code" to see the directory containing the executable. There is no installation proceedure - simply copy the MeshTools3D.exe file to a suitable subdirectory. It must be in the same directory as inversion codes if the inversion code's graphical user interface is to open MeshTools3D.)
  5. gm-data-viewer: A graphical utility for making simple contour plots of data. Data are input in column formats used by MAG3D and GRAV3D, or in xyz format.
    • To see the manual, click the gm-data-viewer code's "Docs" option in IAG's Sftwr & manuals" menu.
    • gm-data-viewer is included in MAG3D and GRAV3D installations.
    • (For a separate copy of this program, Click "code" to see the directory containing the executable. There is no installation proceedure - simply copy the gm-data-viewer.exe file to a suitable subdirectory. It must be in the same directory as inversion codes if the inversion code's graphical user interface is to open gm-data-viewer.)

All utility codes (including graphical user interfaces for program libraries) are included with the respective program libraries. UBC-GIF utilities support use of UBC-GIF codes, but are not designed to produce commercial quality figures or outcomes. Documentation for utility codes is given under the respective code libraries. For example, to find documentation for the 2D model making utility, find DCIP2D in the menu, then "GUI", and it will be there.

All utility codes and documentation can also be downloaded from the UBC-GIF website http://www.eos.ubc.ca/research/ubcgif/.
