Equity and Inclusion in Action: Summer STEM Series

Join us as we talk about inclusive teaching, decolonization, oppression, and other EDI topics. Sessions will be held every week in an informal setting to bring together instructors, staff, and graduate students working on equity and inclusion across disciplines in UBC Science.

Sessions are held every week from June 16 to August 18. This week, the EDI Summer Series session (Wed, July 28 from 12:30 - 2:00) is on "Syllabus and course design with inclusion in mind". Please visit our event series page to learn about upcoming topics and to register for each event.

CTLT Summer Institute

The CTLT Summer Institute focuses on the fundamentals of teaching and learning for new instructors and teaching assistants. This institute serves as a forum to collaborate, network, and engage in knowledge exchange. As we look ahead to the gradual return to campus and transition in-person, blended and hybrid learning this fall, the CTLT will host hybrid teaching and learning panels and skill sharing spaces for you to gather resources. Stay tuned for more information on these additional workshops.

The 2021 CTLT Summer Institute will take place online from August 23-27. For a detailed schedule and to register for sessions, please click here

Inclusive Teaching: What is it and Why Does it Matter?

The session will be held on August 25 from 1:00–3:00 p.m. More details can be found here

UBC Science Equity & Inclusion Scholars Reading Group

The UBC Science Equity & Inclusion Scholars project team will be engaging in a reading group this summer to build our collective understanding of key topics in the research literature on equity and inclusion. This knowledge will be used to better frame our current project and any future equity-related scholarship projects.

The group will meet bi-monthly from 10:00 - 10:50 am on Monday from May 31 to August 23, 2021. For more information about the outline and schedule, please click here.

EDI Action Network Events

The Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Action Network is a space for connection, shared learning, and development for students, staff and faculty working to advance EDI initiatives at UBC. Through events and information exchanges, the network engages those advancing EDI initiatives across the university.

Network participants will benefit from:

  • practical tools, frameworks, and ideas to support unit- and department-level EDI initiatives;
  • increased connections with colleagues working on similar initiatives across UBC;
  • opportunities to expand the impact of their EDI initiatives through identifying areas of synergy with institutional priorities and directions.

In 2021, a pilot gathering was held in May (event summary can be found here) and a larger event is coming in October/November. To learn more about the EDI Action Network and/or instructions for joining the distribution list, please click here
