Curator of Geology and Paleontology - New Brunswick Museum, Saint John, New Brunswick

The Department of Tourism, Heritage and Culture is seeking an individual to join the Natural Sciences Department of the New Brunswick Museum (NBM), located in Saint John, NB, as the Curator of Geology and Paleontology. Reporting to the Head of the Natural Sciences Department, the successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing curatorial affairs and the care and development of the provincial geology (mineralogy and petrology) and paleontology collections of the NBM. EPFL's School of Architecture, Civil and Environmental Engineering (ENAC) invites applications for a faculty position in the Institute of Environmental Engineering. Appointment at all levels (i.e. Tenure Track-, Associate-, and Full Professor) will be considered. Three Faculty Positions - Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Utah State University

Do you want to conduct relevant research and train the next generation of scientists and engineers to address our nation's critical water problems? The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Utah State University seeks talented applicants for a cluster hire of three tenure eligible positions at the assistant or associate level whose research will yield more holistic approaches to solving water problems across natural, built, and/or agricultural environments. PhD Position in Ocean Energy Pathways - Institute of Coastal Research, Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht

The Institute of Coastal Research at the Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht (located near Hamburg, Germany) is investigating energy transfers in the near surface of the ocean.  We therefore invite applications for a Ph.D. position in the area of “ocean energy pathways”. The duration of the position is 3.5 years. We search for a qualified scientist to investigate the small-scale energy pathways of submesoscale structures in the ocean surface mixed layer. Closing date for applications is December 7, 2016. MSc and PhD Positions - Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE), University of Iowa

The University of Iowa was recently awarded a National Science Foundation Research Traineeship (NSF NRT) grant, which will establish a new graduate program in Sustainable Water Development (SWD) within our Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE).  The program is now open for applications at both the MS and PhD level, and we'd like to encourage students to apply. In the SWD Graduate Program, students will become highly trained water professionals ready to meet the resource challenges of communities most in need (e.g., rural America, the urban poor and developing world) as a professional engineer, researcher, or educator. EOAS Greater Vancouver Food Drive - November 15 to December 15, 2016

EOAS is organizing another food drive in support of the Greater Vancouver Food Bank (GVFB). We will be collecting non-perishable food items from November 15 - December 15. A box will be stationed in the EOAS main office (ESB 2020 - 2207 Main Mall) and we are open Monday to Friday from 8:30 AM -4:30 PM. Your donation will go a long way in helping our community in need.

Most wanted items:

• Canned fish or meats
• Canned beans, kidney, black bean, chickpeas
• 100% nut butters
• Pasta and rice
• Canned vegetables, pasta sauces
• Canned fruit, packed in its own juice or water
• Whole grain breakfast cereals
• Hearty soups, stews and chili

Due to health and safety issues we are not able to accept the following items:

• Homemade items
• Expired food
• Products containing alcohol
• Open packages of food

Writing Across the Curriculum Workshop: Writing Assignment and Assessment Design

This three-hour workshop introduces best practices for designing more effective science writing assignments, including the importance of context, active thinking and learning strategies, and assessment (e.g. rubrics). Scholarships and Funding Opportunities for Students

Undergraduate Research Opportunity with Mitacs and DAAD in Germany

Mitacs and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) have partnered to offer the RISE-Globalink Research Internship (RISE-GRI), which offers undergraduate students at Canadian universities the opportunity to undertake research at eligible German institutions. RISE-GRI pairs Canadian students with 10- to 12- week projects supervised by PhD students in Germany. This opportunity is open to full-time undergraduates in biology, chemistry, physics, earth sciences, or engineering (or a closely related field) who have completed at least two years of a four- or five-year program. Applications will be accepted until January 15, 2017.
