Employment and Opportunities

2-Year Post-Doctoral Position - Oregon State University

The Ice Core & Quaternary Geochemistry lab at Oregon State University is searching for a new post-doc to investigate abrupt carbon cycle dynamics (Principal Investigators: Christo Buizert and Ed Brook).

The 2-year project aims to investigate abrupt carbon cycle dynamics during the Dansgaard-Oeschger and Heinrich climate cycles using high-precision CO2 measurements in ice core samples at unprecedented temporal resolution (decadal), and to investigate its link to abrupt changes in the southern hemisphere westerly winds as seen in multi-proxy reconstructions from Antarctic-wide ice core records.

The full position description and instructions for applying can be found here or here. The application deadline is May 1 2020 and we seek to have someone start in Fall 2020 (exact date negotiable). For more information contact Christo Buizert ( ).

4-Year Lectureship in Physical Geography (Geochemistry) - Durham University

The Department of Geography, Durham University, UK, is seeking to hire a Lecturer in Geochemistry (4 year, fixed term). You can view the job posting here. The closing date is March 6th, 2020.

This is a research and teaching post (~equivalent to Assistant Professor level), and the department is looking for someone whose research complements and extends our work in themes of palaeoclimate, carbon and nutrient cycling, and earth surface processes. The Geography department has extensive analytical facilities, which comprise of instruments for inorganic (IC, ICP-MS, ICP-OES) and organic (GC-MS, GC-FID, GC-IRMS) geochemistry. The neighbouring Earth Sciences department has extensive clean lab and isotope geochemistry facilities.

Please contact Erin McClymont ( ), Bob Hilton ( ) and/or the Head of Department Mike Bentley ( ) with any questions.
