mdru.png

MDRU is partnering with the team at Rogue Geoscience to offer a full-day course on mineral exploration information management on Tuesday, May 7, 2019 at UBC Robson Square in Downtown Vancouver, Canada.
The course will identify and provide solutions for the challenges that are unique to today's data-rich mineral exploration industry, through a review of:

  • Data management theory and best practices;
  • Principles of designing a modern exploration data model;
  • Methods to collect diverse datasets in the field, from grassroots exploration to early-stage resource calculations;
  • Practical applications for an integrated data management system, including data compilation, surficial programs, drill programs and field portable analyzers.

Discounted rate is offered to all EOAS Faculty and Students.  Click here for more information.

Employment Opportunities

Assistant, Associate or Full Professor in Arctic Climate Modelling, Centre for Earth Observation Science, Department of Environment and Geography, CHR Faculty of Environment, Earth and Resources, University of Manitoba

The University of Manitoba invites applications for a tenured or tenure track position at the Assistant, Associate or Full professor level.  The successful candidate will have a background and proven track record in the areas of numerical modelling of the Arctic ocean-sea ice-atmosphere system, modelling of glacier-marine freshwater coupling, terrestrial freshwater-marine coupled modelling, or climate change modelling with a particular emphasis on Arctic-midlatitude teleconnection research. Applicants with recognized expertise in the broad fields of Arctic system level modelling at the local, regional or hemispheric scales and with coupled climate models are strongly encouraged to apply.

The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. and aptitude for leading an independently organized and externally funded program in Arctic System Science and Climate Change.  Experience in teaching and mentoring graduate students, research associates, and undergraduate students would be an asset.  Rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

NSERC Canada Research Chair Tier 2, Assistant Professor in Arctic Ice and Marine System Science, Centre for Earth Observation Science, Department of Environment & Geography, CHR Faculty of Environment, Earth, and Resources, University of Manitoba

The University of Manitoba invites applications for a Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) Canada Research Chair (CRC) Tier 2, a tenure track position at the rank of assistant professor in the broad natural science fields of Arctic marine system science.

The Government of Canada has established the CRC program to enable Canadian universities to foster world class research excellence. The proposed CRC aligns with the University's strategic research plan that identifies Arctic System Science and Climate Changeas a targeted area. The position will have a significant proportion allocated to research in any one of the broad areas of Arctic Marine and Climate Science in the specific subdiscipline of the candidate’s specialization.  The candidate will also be expected to teach one undergraduate and one graduate course in their area of research.  Service will also be required both within the University and through various professional and public organizations linked to the candidate’s area of expertise.

The successful candidate will be expected to play a major role in the various Arctic System Science projects led by CEOS at the University of Manitoba, including major new projects focused on freshwater-marine coupling with freshwater sources from glaciers and continental runoff, ocean acidification and carbon exchange processes, physical, biological and chemical oceanography, Arctic-midlatitude teleconnections, and climate change.
