Postdoctoral Position in Speleothem Clumped and Fluid Inclusion Isotopes

There is an opening for a Postdoc to work on clumped isotopes and fluid inclusion isotopes in speleothems from Borneo and South Africa. The results from these methods will be compared to temperatures reconstructed with fluid inclusion microthermometry, which we have set up in Bergen recently. This comparison will allow investigating variations in isotopic disequilbrium in addition to temperature.

Assistant Professor, Geological Sciences and Geological Engineering, Faculty of Arts and Science, Queen's University

The Department of Geological Sciences and Geological Engineering at Queen’s University invites applications for a Tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor with specialization in engineering geology, especially the characterization of earth materials with a preferred starting date of January 1, 2019.

The successful candidate will develop a research program in the characterization and prediction of the behaviour of Earth materials using an array of approaches. The successful candidate will employ field, laboratory, and computational tools to investigate Earth materials and Earth systems. This may include the physical, mechanical, mineralogical, and chemical, nature and history of Earth materials in support of the exploration for, and development and protection of water, oil, gas, aggregate and mineral resources; the mitigation of natural hazards; the safe development of surface and subsurface infrastructure; the prediction and mitigation of impacts of climate change; and/or the disposal of waste materials. We seek an individual with a strong geological and field work background who will use and develop the next generation of field tools and protocols, integrated with modern laboratory and computational analysis, to assess these aspects of Earth materials and to develop sophisticated geological model conceptualizations.

Candidates must have a PhD or equivalent degree completed at the start date of the appointment. The main criteria for selection are research and teaching excellence. Current registration as, or eligibility to register as a P.Eng. is required, and registration as a P.Geo. would be considered an asset.
