Modelling positions - Fisheries and Oceans Canada

Fisheries and Oceans Canada is staffing for modelling in St. John’s. Application closing date is August 7. One of the positions is for the 1D NPZD project that was funded. Another position is for more general ocean modelling  (e.g. NEMO, FVCOM, etc)/physical oceanography. And there is a third position for an ecological carrying capacity model that will use hydrodynamic model outputs.

Role

  • The role of the rapporteur is to act as a knowledgeable individual, who is comfortable with the environmental science and social science literature, the IPCC and the IPBES reports.
  • The rapporteur will take notes from each meeting and produce a consolidated report to summarize Emeriti Catalyst Program meetings.
  • Benefits include lunching with the cohort at PWIAS and interaction with distinguished speakers and the Distinguished Scholars in Residence at PWIAS.
  • The successful candidate would ideally be flexible and able to handle additional tasks as they arise.
  • f no single individual is available, a maximum of three could share the role.

Expectations

  • Candidate should ideally be a graduate student with a focus of study related to climate change or environmental sciences.
  • To provide continuity from month to month; to be present at the Emeriti Cohort September retreat, the 8 speaker luncheons and 6 all cohort events. 46 hours total.
  • Additionally, time for note taking, coordination and consolidated report is estimated at 30-50 hours.

Dates

Retreat: Thursday, September 1 from 10 am – 2 pm (4 hours)

Speaker Luncheons for Emeriti Cohort: Thursdays from 12 pm – 3 pm; 8 lunch meetings (24 hours total); Sept 22, Oct 20, Nov 11, Jan 19, Feb 16, Mar 16, Apr 20 and May 11

Catalyst Program – All Scholar Cohort Events: Wednesdays, 12pm – 3 pm; 6 events (18 hours total); Sept 28, Oct 26, Nov 30, Jan 25, Mar 29 and May 31

Compensation: This is a paid role for a maximum 100 hours between the 2022-23 academic year.
