How will you be assessed?

Overview of the basic ingredients

Mind maps and Concept maps: You will submit a mind map or concept map at least once per week. During the more challenging part of the course after Project 1, you will produce two per week. As long as you complete them and as long as they are thorough, you get full credit.

Abstracts, short writings: Individual and team activities: You will be asked to write partial or complete abstract on several of the assigned readings, following a format that we construct in class.  Other types of writings (similar length to abstracts) will be required when abstracts are not assigned. You will have something due every Monday at least. In general there are at least two assignments per week.

=> Most assignments will be submitted online through the CANVAS system and marked using a rubric we develop together and which you will be able to see online.

We will also revisit many of your assignments in class as a component of group activities: You will learn from one another.

=>ON THE DAY A WRITING OR SHORT ANSWER ASSIGNMENT IS DUE, PLEASE BRING TO ZOOM CLASS EITHER A HARD COPY THAT YOU CAN SHARE BY CAMERA OR AN ELECTRONIC COPY AS A GOOGLE DOC OF YOUR EFFORTS.

Term projects: You are responsible for two projects.  One of these will be in the form of concise oral or poster presentations. Assessments will be based on evaluations from the instructors and from your peers. Details on this will be provided as time goes on.

Participation and group (team) work: You are expected to contribute in all classes. This is NOT a lecture course. Instructors cannot “learn” for you – but we can give you things to do that will help you construct new knowledge and learn skills. We use permanent teams (established in the first week of class) for class work. In addition, you will be working with partners for one or both projects and for many writing assignments.
