Employment & OpportunitiesAre you interested in applying your scientific skills to solving of ocean conservation problems? The Ocean Wise Plastics Lab is looking for an early career scientist to lead a 3-year funded research on the effects of plastic microfibers on wild zooplankton communities (2020-2023). You will work with a multi-disciplinary team of the Plastics Lab at Ocean Wise - a global conservation organization - and in collaboration with the lab of Dr. Maldonado at Earth, Ocean and Atmospheric Sciences of the University of British Columbia, Canada. As a Postdoctoral Fellow you will plan and oversee field and laboratory research in support of the project, which involves graduate students, interns and technical staff. As a member of the Ocean Wise Plastics Lab you will participate in public outreach (presentations, blogs, videos, lab visits) and provide advice to stakeholders in government and industry.
Requirements:
• PhD in environmental toxicology, biological oceanography, aquatic sciences or a related field;
• Experience in assessing eco-physiological responses of plankton to pollutants or water chemistry.
• Microplastics background not required;
• Strong data analysis and statistics knowledge; experience in at least one programming language (R, Python, Matlab);
• Experience publishing in peer-reviewed scientific journals;
• Experience in grant writing;
• Experience in delivering scientific and technical presentations to peers at scientific meetings and conferences;
• Demonstrated science translation experience;
• Mentorship and leadership experience.
