The Communications and Digital Media Specialist will contribute as a valued team member with the Pacific Museum of Earth (PME), Vancouver’s premier Earth Science museum. Located in the University of British Columbia's Department of Earth, Ocean and Atmospheric Sciences, the PME provides educational opportunities at all levels regarding Earth’s atmosphere, oceans, rocks, minerals and fossils, as well as environmental and planetary sciences. The PME is a learning hub for UBC students, faculty, staff and visitors and a key outreach venue at UBC.
One emergent issue outlined in our recent strategic planning exercise was how to increase and strengthen the museum’s online presence. Now more than ever, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, this goal is vital to the success of our core mission: connect the public with UBC research and learning—specifically by showcasing the wonders of Earth and other planets through virtual outreach programming and exhibits.
The Communications and Digital Media Specialist will play a pivotal role in creating digital content for outreach activities as well as increasing our visitor engagement through our social media platforms. This position will give a recent graduate a high-impact work experience within the tight-knit museum environment of one of UBC’s leading outreach, research and teaching facilities.
