Assistant Professor in Mineral Systems - University of Toronto

The Department of Earth Sciences in the Faculty of Arts and Science at the University of Toronto invites applications for a full-time tenure stream position in the area of Mineral Systems. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, with an expected start date of July 1, 2022, or shortly thereafter.

Assistant Professorship in Applied Geophysics - Université du Québec à Montréal

The Département des sciences de la Terre et de l’atmosphère (Earth and Atmospheric Sciences) invites candidates to apply for a tenure-track position in Applied Geophysics.

The successful candidate must be able to establish a research program using geophysical methods (e.g., seismic, magnetic, electric, gravitational, electromagnetic, ground-penetrating radar) in applications such as natural-resources exploration, environmental geology, hydrogeology and geomorphology. We are looking for candidates whose experience in research and teaching is complementary to that of the department, and who can develop collaborations with our professors.

SUMMARY OF TASKS

  • Teaching and training of students at all levels (undergraduate and graduate)
  • Research in the target field of study
  • Service to the department, university, and scientific community

REQUIREMENTS FOR THE POSITION

  • Hold a PhD in Earth science with specialization in applied geophysics at the time of the appointment,
  • Demonstrate a keen interest in teaching and supervision of student projects at undergraduate and graduate levels,
  • Aim to develop an ambitious research program in applied geophysics related to natural resources or the environment,
  • Have an excellent record of research and publications in peer-reviewed journals,
  • Have strong communications skills (oral and written) in French. Candidates should have at least a basic knowledge of French at the time of appointment, as courses at UQAM are given in French. Language training will be offered, and fluency in French (level C1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) is an essential condition for obtaining tenure, in accordance with the UQAM-SPUQ collective agreement.

ASSETS
The following will be considered as advantages:

  • Experience in teaching geophysics courses and other courses in geoscience,
  • Experience in supervision of student projects and management of a research group,
  • Experience in writing grant proposals and obtaining research funding,
  • Experience in service to the scientific community and participating in committees.

PREFERRED STARTING DATE: JUNE 1, 2022

SALARY: According to the UQAM-SPUQ collective agreement
