Funded Master’s Student Position on Community-Based Monitoring and environmental governance - University of Manitoba

The Environmental Change and Governance Research Group at the University of Manitoba, in Winnipeg, Canada is recruiting one Master’s student. The successful applicants will develop a social science research project related to improving the connection between Indigenous-led Community-Based Monitoring and environmental decision-making and governance processes in the Arctic. This research will contribute to an existing multi-disciplinary project conducted in partnership with Indigenous peoples.

The student will be required to apply for admission to the Department of Environment and Geography at the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg, MB. They will benefit from the dynamic and collaborative research environment provided by the Centre for Earth Observation Science (CEOS), which provides access to unique field programs and a large international network of collaborators. The successful candidates will be fully funded (minimum annual stipend: $18,000 for two years). Application for external funding will be required (e.g., Tri-Council Awards).

Qualifications
Successful applicants will have:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in environmental studies, geography, or a similar field;
  • The ability to work collaboratively with multi-disciplinary teams of social and natural scientists;
  • An interest in social science research methods (qualitative, quantitative, and/or spatial); and
  • Familiarity with areas of study including environmental governance and policy, global environmental change, knowledge co-production, and Indigenous studies;
  • Preference will be given to self-identified Indigenous candidates.
