Faculty Position in Hydraulic Infrastructures and Water Systems, Ecole polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL)

Our society will be experiencing a paradigm shift in how energy and water resources for energy are managed. This context creates new research opportunities in hydraulic infrastructures and water systems. EPFL’s School of Architecture, Civil and Environmental Engineering (ENAC) is seeking out talented people who will be able to provide innovative solutions in this field and work at the interface between hydraulics, energy, water economy, climate change, material engineering, and system optimization. In this context, we invite applications for a Faculty position at the Assistant Tenure Track level (in exceptional cases, appointment at the Associate or Full Professor level may be considered).

The successful candidate will have a proven capability to contribute significantly to teaching and scholarship in the broad field of hydraulic infrastructures and engineered water systems in relation to hydraulic energy harvesting.
The main topics of interest include:
• Effects of climate change on hydraulic infrastructures and water systems.
• Design and optimization of hydraulic infrastructures and their life cycle.
• Data science of hydraulic infrastructures and water systems (smart monitoring, digital technologies, etc.).
• Resilience and vulnerability of water systems.

Related topics, such as energy, hydropower, dams and reservoirs, flood protection, safety, or water supply, are also relevant.
EPFL hosts exceptional experimental and computational research facilities, including a fully equipped research laboratory in hydraulics and water infrastructure. Therefore, experts in experimental methods and physical models are encouraged to apply.

Associate Director of the Polar Data Catalogue/CCIN, University of Waterloo

Manage the daily scientific, technical and employment operations of the Polar Data Catalogue/Canadian Cryospheric Information Network (PDC/CCIN). In consultation with the Director, assist in the ongoing strategic development of the PDC/CCIN, develop international partnerships for data management and exchange, and obtain financial resources to ensure the viability of the PDC/CCIN.

Environmental Scientist, ExxonMobil, Clinton NJ, USA

ExxonMobil Biomedical Sciences, Inc. located in Annandale, New Jersey is accepting applications for an Environmental Scientist in the Toxicology & Environmental Sciences Division.  

Typical activities include environmental risk assessment of products and operations, review and critical analysis of literature data, design and monitoring of internal and external research programs, interaction with governmental/ regulatory agencies, and participation in professional organizations and trade associations. Candidates must be able to work independently and interact well with individuals from other disciplines to achieve worldwide business objectives and to ensure compliance with corporate policies and international environmental regulations.

Job Requirements

• A Ph.D. in environmental science or a related field
• Broad training in environmental chemistry, fate and exposure assessment, and/or ecotoxicology
• Experience in the design and interpretation of state-of-the-science lab and field methods used in environmental assessment
• Strong quantitative skills and familiarity with computational tools
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Travel to provide technical support to ExxonMobil affiliates worldwide

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Experience in research into the (bio)degradation of petroleum hydrocarbons or similar substances, in field and laboratory settings
• Previous experience with legislative and regulatory processes and/or work specifically relevant to petroleum or chemical products
