EEGS Sessional Position - UBC Okanagan

The Department of Earth, Environmental and Geographic Sciences at UBC Okanagan requires Sessional Instructors to teach the following online courses during the Summer Session 2020 Term 2.  Note that these courses will remain as online only regardless of change of access to the UBC Okanagan Campus.
 
July 6 to August 21, 2020
 
EESC 106 The Catastrophic Earth | Lecture only
The causes, physical characteristics, and consequences of natural disasters such as earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, severe weather, landslides, tsunamis, floods, meteor impact, and mass extinctions.
 
EESC 303 Oceanography | Lecture only
Geological, chemical, physical and biological oceanography using a multi-disciplinary approach. Origins of oceans, plate tectonics and ocean basins, marine sediments, physical properties and composition of seawater, ocean-atmosphere interactions, surface and deep currents, waves, tides, primary productivity, pelagic and benthic ecosystems, methods of ocean investigation.
Prerequisite: Either (a) two of EESC 101, EESC 111, EESC 121, GEOG 108, GEOG 109 or (b) one of EESC 301, BIOL 307, CHEM 301, EESC 309. Third-year standing.
 
Applicants with a PhD in the discipline, or a related discipline, and relevant research and post-secondary teaching experience preferred. Instructors are expected to teach and assess the courses entirely online. Previous experience and familiarity with the web-based learning management system Canvas is considered an asset. Applicants do not need to be based in Kelowna BC while instructing the course/s.  They are required to have access to a reliable internet connect and a computer.        
 
Interested applicants should forward a curriculum vita, evidence of teaching ability (i.e., course evaluations if available) and contact details for three referees.   Referees will be contacted only for short-listed applicants.  The deadline for receipt of applications for 2020 Summer Terms is 11:59 pm May 10, 2020. Later applications will be considered if no suitable candidate is found.  Be sure to indicate the course/s for which you are applying.

10 scholarships of $60,000 for students beginning a PhD in Oceanography - Institut des sciences de la mer de Rimouski

10 scholarships of $ 20,000/year for three years will be awarded to selected students beginning a Ph. D. program in oceanography at the Université du Québec à Rimouski starting in the fall 2020 or winter 2021 semester.
 
Candidates must apply for a research project on the ISMER website.

Application deadline is May 1, 2020.

ISMER is one of the largest academic marine sciences research institutes in Canada, with about twenty professors specializing in different aspects of oceanography. Their work focuses on major sustainable development issues, including climate change, aquatic resources, aquaculture, the state of health and functioning of marine ecosystems, the impact of contaminants on coastal and marine ecosystems, and coastal erosion.
