Professional design, machining & fabrication (CAD, metal, plastic, wood work, plastic 3D printing) services

The EOAS machine shop has professional design, machining & fabrication (CAD, metal, plastic, wood work, plastic 3D printing) services available on a fee-for-service basis. The machine shop is progressively growing into adding electronic shop capabilities, currently offering design and fabrication of sensor and data acquisition systems, and simple troubleshooting of electronic devices. 

Cost

The labor hourly rate is $30 CAD/hour. Any required materials are charged directly to the user’s worktag, unless it is material the machine shop has in stock, and it can offer at a competitive rate. 

How to submit a ticket? 

To submit a ticket for a job request (or any other communication with the team), please email to: eoas.machineshop@eoas.ubc.ca

Please provide the following information: 

  • General description of your request
  • Worktag (please make sure your supervisor is aware of your request and future charges)
  • Supervisor’s name

After submitting a ticket, the team will organize a meeting to discuss your needs and requirements. 

Important: once you ticket has been added to the work queue, you will receive an email confirming your job ID, the machinist leading the job. If you have not received this email, please follow up using the email above. 

Communicating with the team

Our team will be in touch with users via the eoas.machineshop@eoas.ubc.ca email. Please make sure to use this email address to make sure all the team is aware of the evolution of the job/project. Users can also resolve minor inquiries by visiting the shop, but we strongly encourage users to make an appointment to make sure they receive have the attention and the time they deserve. 

3D printing services

For 3D printing services, please provide a model in “.stl” format (if you don’t have a file, please see the next section) and the following information:

  • Worktag
  • Supervisor’s name
  • Description of how the part will be used
  • Optional: Type of material
  • Optional: Layer height: 0.06, 0.1, 0.15, or 0.2 mm (Typical: 0.15 mm)
  • Optional: Infill: 10-100% (Typical: 20%)
  • Optional: Part finishing: Yes or No (Example: remove support material and build plate excess material)
  • Optional: Post-processing: Describe any post-processing procedure (Example: hole reaming or threading)

Currently we are printing with PLA and PETG with a cost of $0.08/gr plus a minimum labour fee of $15 CAD. If you need help deciding parameters or designing a part, please feel free to contact the machine shop team to schedule a meeting. 

Design services

If you don’t have a design but have an idea, we can help you to design parts to be printed. The standard machine shop rates apply for the CAD work involved.
