Biology / Oceanography Professor - Coast Mountain College

Coast Mountain College (CMTN), Prince Rupert campus, invites applications for a 70% regular College Professor to teach Biology and Oceanography courses.  Salary will be in accordance with the CUPE Instructor Scale: (range at 70%: $49,305.60 - $79,010.40 per annum) plus a comprehensive benefits package. Additional term-based course-work may be available to interested and qualified applicants.

Duties: College Professors are responsible for contributing to the academic success of students. This includes course preparation, teaching and guiding students, providing feedback, correction, encouragement, and direction. 2024/2025 workload will include several of the following (may change from year to year):

Fall Semester (September – December)

  • BIOL 101: Introductory Biology 1 - Cells, Diversity & Physiology (lecture and labs)
  • OCGY 208: Introductory Physical, Chemical and Geological Oceanography (lecture)
    Winter Semester (January – April)
  • BIOL 102: Introductory Biology II – Genetics, Evolution & Ecology (lecture and labs)
  • OCGY 209: Introduction to Biological Oceanography (lecture)
  • BIOL 211: Principles of Ecology (lecture)

    Spring/Summer Semester

  • BIOL 201: Invertebrate Zoology (lecture and labs)

Qualifications

A minimum of both a master’s degree and a bachelor’s degree in a related discipline along with teaching experience at the post-secondary level.  Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate experience with experiential teaching formats.

Required attributes/experience includes:

  • Demonstrated commitment to evidence-based teaching with the ability to inspire and motivate learners
  • Knowledge and enthusiasm for contemporary practices to promote and respect equity, diversity, and inclusion in teaching, learning and professional contexts
  • Demonstrated excellence with intercultural competence, particularly in regards to local Indigenous communities
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and facilitation skills
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
