This project has the overall goal to provide tools to study past bottom water deoxygenation, and advance the field of proxy calibration via a novel combination of biological processes and biomineralization studies. The project will use modern foraminifera from low-oxygen environments and study their geochemistry, perform mesocosm experiments with forams, and genetically characterize forams. This is a four-year fully paid PhD position and includes full Swedish social system benefits. International travel is an important part of the project. For more information and to apply, please see:

This conference aims to facilitate scientific exchange between early-career researchers (ECRs) from a broad range of disciplines working with sea-level change. The conference will include two days of oral and poster presentations by ECRs, invited keynote lectures, a one-day field trip to the Rhine delta and Holland coastal plain with conference dinner, and a public ‘Science and Society’ evening event. The conference is open to ECRs who have obtained or expect to obtain their Ph.D. in 2010 or later. The conference is limited to 75 ECR participants.

The Drilling and Coring Summer Institute (DCSI), a nine-day comprehensive training course for grad students, postdocs, and early-career researchers. This highly-rated, low-cost course will be offered twice in summer 2018. http://z.umn.edu/dcsi
The Visiting Grad Student Program (VGSP), a $1000 competitive travel grant for graduate students to visit LacCore/CSDCO with their cores and receive support and training from Facilities staff. http://z.umn.edu/vgsp
