Launch of the ECCC Meteorology Awards - Scholarship program open to UBC students

A new scholarship program launched today, with funding from Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC), to promote the study of atmospheric science among post-secondary students in Canada. The ECCC Meteorology Awards are being administered by Universities Canada and are accepting applications from students in BSc and Diploma of Meteorology programs at UBC until March 6, 2025. There are 3 categories of awards, targeting students at UBC who are either enrolled in/enrolling in a BSc program, a BSc Major or Honours in Atmospheric Science program, or the Diploma in Meteorology program.

Think Global, Link Local 2025 - Invitation from the United Nations Association in Canada - Vancouver Branch - March 7th

Join us on Friday, March 7th, from 8 AM – 12 PM (registration is at 8:00 AM) at the Holiday Inn Vancouver (711 West Broadway). Tickets are available now on Eventbrite, and you can also find the link on our website.

The United Nations Association in Canada - Vancouver Branch (UNAC-V), in conjunction with the Kwantlen Polytechnic University NGO and Non-profit Studies Program, is excited to host the eleventh annual Think Global, Link Local (TGLL 2025). TGLL is an award-winning annual networking event that was recognized by UNESCO’s IFIP (International Forum of Inclusion Practitioners). TGLL offers students the opportunity to connect with over 14 globally focused humanitarian or service organizations. Each organization will have a dedicated table, allowing participants to learn directly about career or volunteer opportunities.

Some of the organizations joining us this year:

  • Amnesty International Canada
  • Immigrant Services Society of BC (ISSofBC)
  • Ocean Wise
  • Canadian Red Cross
  • United Nations Association in Canada - Vancouver Branch (UNAC-V)

This year, we are honored to welcome Ms. Leilani Farha as our keynote speaker. Leilani is a lawyer and the Global Director of The Shift, an international human rights organization focusing on the right to housing. You can learn more about their work at here. From 2014 - 2020, Leilani served as the UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to Adequate Housing. She is globally recognized for her expertise in human rights law.
