Tier I Canada Research Chair in Metallogeny - Laurentian University

The Harquail School of Earth Sciences (HES) and Mineral Exploration Research Centre (MERC) at Laurentian University invite applications for a Tier I Canada Research Chair in Metallogeny that integrates ore system research with broad scale tectonic processes.

Laurentian University is seeking an innovative individual with an outstanding record of research and publication, who will provide leadership for national and international collaborative research and become a focus for integration of research initiatives involving HES/MERC, the Ontario Geological Survey/Ontario Geoscience Laboratories (located in the same building), and the mining industry. The Chair will be expected to contribute to our BSc, MSc, and PhD programs. The successful applicant will have access to a recently updated LA-ICP-MS facility (Teledyne Cetac Analyte G2 Excimer Laser, Thermo Neptune Plus high-resolution MC-ICP-MS,  and iCap TQ triplequadrupole ICP-MS with dedicated full-time PhD technician), and a wide range of additional preparation and analytical equipment.

Student Field Assistant for Summer 2020 - Fogo Island, Newfoundland

The Canadian charity Shorefast, based on Fogo Island, NL, 

is seeking a field assistant position with Geology at the Edge (GatE) for Summer 2020. The field assistant will assist resident geologists in conducting geological hikes, research and mapping, and geoscience education. Accommodation is provided. 2-Year Post-Doc Opportunity - Politecnico di Milano

The Environmental Intelligence Lab, Dept. of Electronics, Information and Bioengineering, at Politecnico di Milano invites applications for one postdoctoral position in the broad field of water resources systems analysis, modeling and control for a period of 2 years.
 
The position is part of the project “ADDApt: designing adaptation measures to contrast climate extremes in subalpine river basins”. ADDApt is an interdisciplinary project advancing the state of the art of robust climate adaptation design in multi-sector water engineering systems. The focus of ADDApt is on:

1.     Many-objective tradeoff analysis of the water-energy-food nexus;
2.     Robust and flexible design of adaptation measures;
3.     Machine learning for detection/prediction of climate extremes.

Qualifications for this position include a Ph.D. in water resources engineering, hydrology, or a related field of environmental engineering. Alternatively, candidates having a background in machine learning, applied mathematics and automation and control are also encouraged to apply. The successful candidate is experienced with water resources system operation design, mult-iobjective optimization, real time control of water resources systems. Strong numerical and computational skills are required as well as English language skills both in oral and written communication.

The 10km race is Sunday, April 19, 2020. You run the race independently, but we compete as a team in the educational category. T-shirts with our logo and race bibs will be available for pick-up in the department the Friday before the race.
