UBC team places 1st at Canadian Engineering Competition

March 13, 2016

Congratulations to Daniel Wheeler (GEOE), Peter Li (CIVL), Ivan Ma (GEOE), and Owen Liu (MECH) for winning first prize at the Canadian Engineering Competition! Over 150 students from 24 universities from across Canada competed at this year's competition at McGill University, March 3 - 6. The team qualified for the national level following their success at the Western Engineering Competition in the consulting category. Their challenge was to execute and present a comprehensive feasibility study on the 2021 Francophone games cycling events to be held in Bromont, Quebec. "It was a very challenging and realistic problem," Team member Owen Li writes. "We not only had to look at the technical aspects of the problem, but also the social, economic, environmental, and political sides. It really pushed our thinking and problem solving abilities." The team thanks Susan Hollingshead for her support and feedback. The team thanks Susan Hollingshead for her support and feedback.
