Assistant/Associate Professorships - Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics, University of Cambridge

We are delighted to announce that applications are invited for two Assistant/Associate Professorships to be jointly held between the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics (DAMTP) and the Department of Earth Sciences (DES) at the University of Cambridge, to commence on 1 January 2024 or shortly thereafter. These two new faculty positions will support a new MPhil in Quantitative Climate and Environmental Sciences jointly developed by DAMTP and DES in collaboration with the British Antarctic Survey.  Applications are particularly encouraged that build on, complement and extend pre-existing strengths across Climate and Environmental Sciences at the University and at the British Antarctic Survey. Both positions have closing date 28 September 2023.

For the position in Climate and Environmental Fluid Dynamics, applications are particularly encouraged from those in geophysical, climate and environmental fluid dynamics that significantly exploits the unique facilities of the GK Batchelor laboratory in DAMTP.

For further details see here. Onsite seminars and interviews will be conducted in the week of 13 November 2023.

For the complementary position in Climate and Environmental Data Science, we are particularly keen to recruit applicants whose research includes quantitative analysis of climatologically or environmentally relevant observational data acquired using field-based approaches, which can include, but is not limited to, environmental geochemistry, geomorphology, or field-based fluid flow.

For further details see here. On-site seminars and interviews will be conducted in the week of 27 November 2023.

Mentorship Opportunity - Biology Undergraduate Diversity in Research Program (BUDR) - The University of British Columbia

The Biology Undergraduate Diversity In Research  (BUDR) program  is looking for mentors that are passionate about science and interested in promoting equity for Term 1 of our 2023-2024 cohort. Graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and faculty members of any background are eligible to become a BUDR mentor.

BUDR supports students from historically marginalized and disenfranchised backgrounds by providing them with mentorship and paid research opportunities. BUDR mentors will provide undergraduate students with guidance and insights on career and academic development. This can include providing guidance through graduate school applications, navigating career options in the biological sciences, and educating students about research opportunities (with an opportunity for mentors to promote their research).

Mentors will typically be expected to take on two students and set aside 4 hours per month to student mentorship. EDI-centered training will also be provided to mentors in the form of a 2-hour workshop..

BUDR Mentors are an essential pillar of support for underrepresented students in our community. Become a part of a team committed to making UBC a more inclusive and welcoming academic space and apply by sending a completed application here by September 15th 2023.

More information can be found at here.

Mentorship Opportunity - Girls SySTEM

The program provides a space for young women interested in STEM by pairing self-identifying young women in grades 7-12 (ages 12-18) with professional mentors from a diverse range of STEM fields. We rely on the help of our mentors who are eager to nurture female innovators towards professional development and diversify the landscape of the STEM workforce.

I am reaching out with a request that you circulate this opportunity to graduate students or colleagues who may be interested in being a mentor.

Our applications to become a mentor for the 23/24 program year are now open. Visit here and apply to become a mentor. We ask that mentors are able to commit 1-2 hours a month and provide a police record check upon completing an application. Our program is hybrid, therefore we provide virtual and in-person opportunities to accommodate everyone. Mentor applications close on September 15th, 2023.

After the application process, mentors will be paired with a mentee based on shared academic interests and goals, hobbies, and overall compatibility. For those who may be interested in joining, more information can be found on here
