Professor in Geological Oceanography - Université du Québec à Rimouski

The Institut des sciences de la mer de Rimouski (ISMER), QC, Canada, is seeking a new professor in geological oceanography with a specialization in isotopic geochemistry.

Requirements: PhD in Earth sciences, oceanography, marine geology, marine geochemistry, or related discipline

Required area of research: Stable isotopes, climate and environmental changes at various time scales, quaternary geology, foraminifera (planktonic and benthic)

Title: A Moon-Age Daydream

Abstract: The Moon ... we see it (almost) every day ... but do we actually know how and when it was made? Do we know how it changed with time and how it relates to our wonderful Earth?

Biography: Josh is a lunar geoscientist, who combines novel techniques in geochemistry and petrology to study the formation and evolution of the moon and other planetary bodies. He is a great speaker and wonderful scientist, and ... yes ... his samples, as well as his research, are truly out of this world!

UBC Gender Equity & STEM Conference

The UBC Gender Equity & STEM Conference 2020 is scheduled to take place on March 14th from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm at the UBC Irving K. Barber Learning Centre. The main goal of this conference is to advance dialogue around gender inclusion and equality in STEM fields, specifically with regards to women and other gender-oppressed communities, and equip attendees with the inspiration and motivation to tackle the STEM gender gap in their own spheres. Topics will include the stigma and bias women and gender-oppressed communities face when pursuing careers and education in STEM, how gender-oppressed communities have made a positive impact on the world through STEM, how the gender gap in STEM can best be addressed through policy and innovation, and the societal, health and economic impacts of addressing this gap.

Physical Processes in Natural Waters, June 15-19, 2020

The conference Physical Processes in Natural Waters will be hosted at UBC this year. This is an annual, international conference which focuses on physical processes in inland and coastal waters. The conference is most often held in Europe but this year it is here at UBC. The conference opens with a reception on the evening of Monday June 15th and runs from Tuesday to Friday, June 16-19th. This moderately sized conference (60 participants) has longer talks, and time for discussion providing a workshop atmosphere.
