Hydrologist / Water Resource Engineer - Lorax Environmental

We are recruiting for an intermediate- to senior-level hydrologist or equivalently skilled water resource engineer to join our interdisciplinary technical team comprised of geochemists, hydrogeologists, hydrologists, engineers, toxicologists and numerical modelling specialists. Prior experience in the resource development sector will be an asset, particularly in the hard rock and coal mining sectors.

The ideal candidate will possess many of the following qualifications and experience, and must be registered, or eligible for registration with Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia:

  • A post-graduate degree (Master’s or Doctorate) with a focus on physical hydrology or water resource engineering;
  • Strong working knowledge of streamflow gauging techniques, establishment of baseline hydrometric networks, rating curve theory, water level and discharge time-series adjustments, and streamflow data assembly;
  • Ability to compile baseline hydro-climate datasets, integrate regional data, produce baseline reports, conduct frequency analyses and other relevant time-series statistical analyses;
  • Experience assessing quality of climate and hydrometric data and conducting gap analyses related to hydrometric networks and baseline datasets;
  • Previous experience compiling water balance models in GoldSim and Excel, and watershed models (e.g., RAVEN, HEC-HMS, UBCWM);
  • Demonstrated experience collaborating on multidisciplinary water projects; and,
  • Experience communicating the results of water-related technical studies (e.g., with stakeholder technical review teams and First Nations, provincial/territorial regulators, and the scientific/engineering community at large).
